Mr & Mrs Tennant

I photographed Dave and Leigh’s wedding at Netherwood right  in the middle of winter. It was phenomenal weather for this time of year in the Midlands (KZN). It’s hard for me to describe (now that I am trying to) but Leigh and Dave have such a natural, regal, classic and comfortable way about them. This was further amplified by the way that their friends speak of them, everyone adores them and I think these photos show why. Every part of the day was filled with laughter and loads of friends and family. Everything on the day ran around 30 minutes early(in photographer time), it’s almost unheard of, this set the tone for a calm relaxed pace through everything.  Dave and Leigh were so caring and considerate and were always checking in on how I was doing which really is, above and beyond general expectations, it was great to feel so much a part of their special day, I can’t thank you both enough, (to the point of making me tea after our creative shoot! – I will never forget that haha). Congratulations to you both, lots and lots of love. See more images from this wedding here: http://katevanonselen.pass.us/tennant/ (click images to […]

Little Noah Tyler

I am pleased to introduce little Mr Noah Tyler – this adorable little man’s shoot was done at under a week after he was born.  He has the cutest long little fingers and unbelievable strength and attention/ awareness for a week old baby (holds his head up on his own and looks right at you)  but those lips of his – wow, he is definitely going to be a heart breaker. Congrats to Natalie and Nick, well done on creating this little cutie pops! xx

Mr & Mrs Trinder

Wow, so much to say about this gorgeous wedding, it was an absolutely typical Winters morning in Notties i.e FREEZING, this resulted beautiful moody light during the day but sadly below freezing rainy weather in the evening. This meant that we had to cut the creative shoot a little short, which we then re-shot at a later time. The later images have a more editorial feel to them which I found really appealing in that they were clean and crisp and I found little ways to fill the negative space with intersting building details or reflections. Apart from the gorgeousness that is the bride and groom,  my  favourite thing about this wedding were the unique colours and decor elements, it was so different and really stunning. Loved every minute of this wedding and I will let the images do the talking. . . Once again, HUGE congrats to Mr and Mrs Trinder – you guys look amazing, you powered through the cold and I can’t thank you enough for having me be a part of your special day. The French’s

The French’s welcomed me into their home in Richards Bay for a weekend to capture their family as a gift for their Mum. They live in such a beautiful home and it’s opposite the local Yacht Club which adds to the grandeur. The family are like peas in a pod, they all get on so well and genuinely enjoy each other’s company which I hope comes through in these images.

denim duo

This is part 4 of my styled “urban fashion” series … I love the bow-tie accessory and the soft feeling of the all denim look. I chose these shots because I like the obvious way the model is interacting with the camera and the interesting shapes she makes with the poses.  Credits: Styling: Camilla Gildinhuys @ Jane Wonder Model: Leigh Thompson Makeup: Kalleigh Wissing Second Shooter: Jenna Hattingh

The van Zyls

Candice and Justin flew me up to Mpumalanga to photograph their big day at Oliver’s Restaurant in White River, which is both of their home town. It is one of those fairytale love stories, they grew up together, went their separate ways to study and work and then found each other later down the line, fell in love and the rest was history. The day of the wedding was a sweltering hot and even though the power cut out from around 2pm until just after the ceremony, that didn’t put an damper on their day at all – thank goodness Candice had managed to get her hair done before that happened! Such a beautiful couple and a beautiful celebration. Thank you to everyone who looked after me, I have never felt so important in a wedding xxx Wishing these two gorgeous souls an eternity of happiness together. xx

sexy on the beach

These are a selection of images that I liked the most from a shoot that I did for Cornetto Ice Cream in January this year. The water was freezing as it was shot in Cape Town on a particularly dismal morning (thank goodness the rain cleared up just in time for the shoot to start) – these two has such great energy together.

Pastel and Pearls

This is part 3 of my styled “urban fashion” series … through my eyes, it’s the softness of the pastel high-low skirt and the absorbed-thoughtful feeling that the images give me, that I like about them. Also, the structure of the hard line of the stairs that juxtapose the look. Pretty Playful

I love the cheekiness of these images, the soft lace skirt with denim and lumo accessories really aids the fun feeling too. Shot in a hotel entrance on the Durban Point Waterfront development (We were chased off location by hotel security because we weren’t allowed to shoot in the area … hee hee) Part 2 of the Urban Fashion Shoot Credits: Styling: Camilla Gildinhuys @ Jane Wonder Model: Leigh Thompson Makeup: Kalleigh Wissing Second Shooter: Jenna Hattingh
